Fascial and Lymphatic Flow Massage - OMT

Fascial and Lymphatic Flow Massage - OMT

Our focus at Kohola Integrative Fascia and Wellness Center is fascial health and care.  We are in a unique position to offer highly specialized techniques based on osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT) including myofascial releases and lymphatic drainage techniques.  We also recognize and respect that many of the OMT techniques go hand-in-hand and will often utilize a combination of different techniques that will synergistically work to achieve our client’s functional abilities and improvement in pain.

Our Common techniques used are:

1.Soft Tissue Manipulation: This technique involves applying gentle pressure and stretching to the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and fascia) to improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension.

2.Myofascial Release: This focuses on relieving tension in the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles) through slow, gentle stretching and pressure.

3Lymphatic Drainage: This technique is aimed at promoting the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic vessels by using rhythmic motions in the direction of lymphatic drainage.  Since the lymphatic system doesn’t have a central pump like the heart, its circulation relies on the body’s movements and the actions of smooth muscles within the lymphatic vessels.

4.Muscle Energy Techniques: These involve using the patient’s muscle contractions against a resistance provided by the physician. This helps in improving joint mobility and muscle function.

5.Counterstrain: In this technique, the physician uses gentle positioning of the body to relieve muscle spasms and pain.

Additionally, we often combine OMT with interventional pain procedures such as fascial hydrodissection to achieve improvement in pain and functional restoration.

What are the benefits of a lymphatic drainage OMT?

Reduced Swelling (Edema)

One of the primary benefits of lymphatic drainage OMT is its ability to reduce swelling caused by fluid retention. This can be particularly helpful for individuals with conditions like lymphedema, post-surgical swelling, or chronic venous insufficiency.

Improved Immune Function:

Lymphatic fluid contains white blood cells that help fight infections. By improving lymphatic circulation, the body’s immune system becomes more efficient in detecting and fighting infections.

Detoxification

Lymphatic drainage helps remove metabolic waste products, toxins, and excess proteins from the body. This can assist the body in detoxifying naturally and support overall health.

Pain Relief

Lymphatic congestion and inflammation can contribute to pain and discomfort. By improving the drainage of lymph fluid, osteopathic lymphatic drainage techniques can help alleviate these symptoms.

Better Circulation

Lymphatic drainage OMT helps improve overall circulation in the body. This not only supports immune function but also promotes healing in injured or stressed tissues.

Support During Illness

Lymphatic drainage can be beneficial for individuals suffering from colds, flu, or other viral infections, as it supports the body’s natural defenses and helps reduce inflammation.

Increased Range of Motion

The relaxation of tight muscles and fascia from OMT can improve flexibility and reduce stiffness, enhancing movement and mobility.

What are the benefits of myofascial release OMT?

Myofascial release can relieve muscle tension, improve flexibility, increase circulation, and reduce chronic pain by targeting restricted fascia.

OMT is a hands-on treatment performed by osteopathic physicians to diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions by manipulating muscles, joints, and soft tissues.

OMT focuses on treating the entire body rather than just isolated symptoms, considering overall health, lifestyle, and environment to restore balance and function.

This term is used to emphasize the focus on both fascia and lymphatic circulation during OMT sessions, combining techniques to improve tissue mobility and fluid drainage.

OMT is generally safe when performed by a trained osteopathic physician. However, patients with fractures, severe osteoporosis, or advanced spinal conditions will undergo a comprehensive evaluation to assess suitability.
